1. - (1) Whenever it is necessary to proceed forthwith to the choice of a new Speaker in consequence of the Speaker having ceased for any reason to be a Member of this House, the chair shall be taken by that Member, present in the House and not being a Minister of the Crown, who has served for the longest period continuously as a Member of this House.

(2) Whenever it is necessary to proceed to the choice of a new Speaker in consequence of an intimation to Her Majesty by the Speaker of her wish to relinquish that office then the Speaker shall continue to take the chair and shall perform the duties and exercise the authority of Speaker until a new Speaker has been chosen, whereupon the Speaker shall leave the chair and shall cease to perform those duties and to exercise that authority and the Speaker Elect shall take the chair accordingly:
Provided that, if when this House proceeds to choose a new Speaker the unavoidable absence of the Speaker has been announced, the Deputy Speaker shall forthwith leave the chair and the chair shall be taken in accordance with the provisions of paragraph (1) of this order.

(3) A Member taking the chair under the provisions of paragraph (1) of this order shall enjoy all those powers which may be exercised by the Speaker during proceedings under paragraph (2) thereof.

(4) When a motion has been made, in accordance with the provisions of this order, that a certain Member do take the chair of this House as Speaker, a question shall be proposed on that motion and the question on any further such motion shall be put as an amendment thereto.

1. - (1) Ogni volta che sia necessario procedere immediatamente alla scelta di un nuovo Speaker avendo cessato per qualunque motivo lo Speaker di essere Membro di questa Camera, la presidenza sarà assunta da quel Membro presente nella Camera e che non sia un Ministro della Corona, che abbia servito continuativamente per il più lungo periodo come Membro di questa Camera.

(2) Ogni volta che sia necessario procedere alla scelta di un nuovo Speaker a seguito dell’annuncio a Sua Maestà da parte dello Speaker del suo desiderio di abbandonare quella carica, lo Speaker continuerà ad assumere la presidenza, svolgerà i compiti ed eserciterà l’autorità di Speaker finché un nuovo Speaker non sia stato scelto, dopodiché lo Speaker lascerà la presidenza e cesserà di svolgere quei compiti e di esercitare quella autorità e lo Speaker eletto assumerà quindi la presidenza:
A condizione che, se quando questa Camera procede alla scelta di un nuovo Speaker sia stata annunciata la inevitabile assenza dello Speaker, il Vice dello Speaker lascerà immediatamente la presidenza e questa sarà assunta in conformità alle disposizioni del paragrafo (1) del presente order.

(3) Un Membro che assuma la presidenza secondo le disposizioni del paragrafo (1) del presente order disporrà di tutti i poteri che possono essere esercitati dallo Speaker durante le procedure di cui al paragrafo (2).

(4) Quando sia stata presentata una mozione, in conformità alle disposizioni del presente order, che un certo Membro assuma la presidenza di questa Camera in qualità di Speaker, sarà proposta una questione su quella mozione e la questione su qualunque ulteriore mozione di tal genere sarà posta come un emendamento alla prima mozione.
